Step 1: Email Your Local Reps

You can email your local reps with just one click along with our recommended email template to help garner support in the House and Senate for this bill.

First choose the state you are in and then click on the "Email w/Template" link. We'll open up an email window with the exact message to write and all you have to do is hit "Send." That's it!

Once you've emailed the folks, then you should call them as a follow up to drive the message home. Note: the email will be going to your Congressman's HLA representative and Senator's Legislative Director.

IMPORTANT: Please ensure you've set up your Email Signature so that it includes your contact info (Full Name, Email Address & Phone Number) because Congressional and Senate Reps require that to figure out if the message is from a "real" person.

Senate Script

My good friend, Mayuri Saxena has ALS (or instead mention anyone you know who has ALS), and is fighting for her life. I’m calling to ask the Senator to co-sponsor the ACT for ALS bill, Senate Bill 1813. That’s 1-8-1-3. ALS is 100% fatal and untreatable. This bill can change that. It will help people who are Dying and Waiting to get access to potentially life-changing treatments that are stuck in clinical trials.

(wait for their response, which will either be “Thanks I’ll forward that” or “what about the Bill” or they’ll ask for your contact, including your address to check if you’re a resident/constituent)

I’m actually part of a patient-led grassroots effort advocating for ALS patients in your state. While I may not be a resident, my good friend Mayuri Saxena & thousands of others can no longer speak or type to reach out to their Senators. . .

We’re fighting to pass this bill before the end of the year. It is the Top 100 most cosponsored bills in the last half century! In the House, the Bill has 326 cosponsors & passed UNANIMOUSLY out of committee. We expect a vote on the House floor before the end of the year. Now the ball is in the Senate's court. As of Nov 10th, S.1813 has over 41 sponsors in the Senate. That's why we need the Senator's help urgently.

Can you please have your Legislative Director, or SENIOR HEALTH staffer look at bill S.1813 and ask the Senator to please co-sponsor it?

(Mayuri) is a good friend, and her prognosis isn’t good – but she and so many other dying ALS patients could benefit from this bill.

We’re looking to urgently pass this bill during this session. In the House last session, this Bill had 279 bi-partisan co-sponsors in 3 months. The new House Bill already has over 140 cosponsors in a few weeks!

Can you please have your Legislative Director, or a Senior member of your Health Legislative staff, urgently look at bill H.R.3537 and ask the Representative to please co-sponsor it soon? Mayuri is a good friend, and her prognosis isn’t good – but she and so many other dying ALS patients could benefit from this bill.
